The last time I left the country was October of 2018. It seems insane to me that it’s been so long since I have been overseas. Mark and I try to travel out of the country at least once a year.
Because we were moving to Colorado in November of 2018, we planned a big trip right before we moved. We spent a month in Laos and Thailand. Because we moved across the country and spent a lot of money doing it, we decided to stay in the USA to settle in and check out Colorado the following year. The summer of 2019 we did a week long road trip exploring Nebraska. We had a lot of fun and I loved exploring a new state but I was getting antsy! I could feel my trapped, travel hungry soul jumping out of my skin with anticipation to get on a plane!
It was decided, 2020 was going to be our big travel year! We planned Puerto Rico in March, Ireland in July, and a cruise to Mexico in November! I was so excited and absolutely pumped but you know how this story goes. Covid-19 cancelled all of our travel plans.
We did get to do a road trip to the Grand Canyon and Sedona this summer which was amazing but it still didn’t satisfy my craving for a trip abroad.
Once it was apparent that all of our trips were cancelled, we were forced to push our travel plans back one year. We loosely plan years in advance so this pushed us back. 2021 was supposed to be Peru and Aruba. Sigh.
The fate of 2021 is still unclear. It’s coming quick and there are still many travel restrictions in place. Many countries are requiring a negative Covid-19 test 3 days prior to travel and a 2 week quarantine if results come back positive. Because many positive people are asymptomatic this is just not realistic. There is no way I can book these trips at this moment. As the days go on, I get less and less hopeful that I will be able to travel abroad in 2021.
As a world traveler, it is unfathomable to me that at that time I will not have traveled out of the country in THREE years! That is not something I ever thought would happen. But, as Covid-19 has taught us, we cannot always plan. Not planning is very difficult for me. My planner has never been so empty.
Because I haven’t been able to travel out of the country we have been trying to hit up a lot of local spots. We have been going hiking, we went kayaking, and we plan to go to 3 National Parks in the next few weeks! I am trying to get my fill of adventure somehow!
How have you been spending your quarantine? Have you been antsy to travel? Where is the first place you plan to go when restrictions soften?
