116. How to Heal from Adversity and Mental Illness with a Change in Lifestyle

Hello and welcome to my podcast, The Wellness Project with Des. On today’s podcast episode, I speak with Chasity Snowden about her mental health journey.

I’m Desiree, a Mental Health Therapist that is passionate about helping people improve their mental health and live a healthy and fulfilled life. One way I do this is by interviewing experts in the field of mental health and wellness as well as those that have struggled with their mental health but have gained control over it and now live fulfilling lives. In this episode, we will hear from Chasity Snowden about her mental illnesses and the steps she took to heal.

Growing up, Chasity experienced emotional and physical abuse from her father. She explains that he was an aggressive man due to his alcoholism. Chasity also explains that she received mixed messages about food because her parents had opposite relationships with food. Her father would over eat while her mother struggled with anorexia and over exercising. Her family used food to cope with various emotions: stress, anger, as well as happiness and relaxing. Because Chasity wasn’t taught to deal with her stress, food was her only coping mechanism. She struggled with Bulimia from the young age of 11. Chasity would struggle with Bulimia for the next twenty years. She also suffered with anxiety, depression, and panic attacks for about forty years and for the past 4 years, Chasity has been dealing with chronic pain and chronic migraines.

After struggling and suffering for so long, Chasity needed to make changes in her life. She wanted to improve her mental and physical health. Chasity explains that the first step she took was to change her diet and lifestyle in order to manage her mental health symptoms.

Listen to Chasity’s powerful and inspiring story. You will learn about the techniques and skills that have helped to improve her mental and physical health as well as how she healed her relationship with her father.
