Hello and welcome to my podcast, The Wellness Project with Des. On today’s podcast episode, I speak with Janis Isaman about the healing power of movement.
I’m Desiree, a Mental Health Therapist and Holistic Wellness Coach, passionate about helping people improve their mental health and live a healthy and fulfilled life. One way I do this is by interviewing experts in the field of mental health and wellness as well as those that share their first-hand accounts with their mental health journeys. In this episode, we will hear from Janis about Trauma Sensitive Movement.
Janis Isaman is a Trauma Sensitive Movement Specialist and the founder of My Body Couture, a one-on-one private movement studio. Janis’ journey in somatic healing began when she had reoccurring pain from a knee injury. She saw many diferent specialists and practitioners but the pain always came back. She knew she needed to find a different way to heal.
After discovering the transformative power of body work and somatic practices, Janis’ life changed. She went through training and began working with clients to help hel their pain but nothing in her training prepared her for the emotional reaction her clients were having when they practiced bodywork with her. Interested in this connection between bodywork, movement, and emotions, her therapist friend pointed her in the direction of trauma work. Janis explains that this was the missing piece to the puzzle. Through Trauma Sensitive Movement, Janis is now able to help her clients to move through and process their emotions by connecting to their bodies.
In our conversation, Janis explained that many of us grow up without body awareness and are conditioned from a young age to be disconnected from our bodies. She also explained the difference between exercise and movement when it comes to healing.
Listen to this powerful conversation to learn how you can heal from trauma with somatic practices.
