Hello and welcome to my podcast, The Wellness Project with Des. On today’s podcast episode, I speak with Ella Worsley about healing from trauma.
I’m Desiree, a Mental Health Therapist and Holistic Wellness Coach that is passionate about helping people improve their mental health and live a healthy and fulfilled life. One way I do this is by interviewing experts in the field of mental health and wellness as well as those that share their first hand accounts with their mental health journeys. In this episode, we will hear from Ella about the grief and trauma she experienced in her life, how it impacted her, and how she began to heal.
Ella Worsley had experienced a lot of grief and trauma from a young age. When she was 6 years old, her uncle was murdered. This traumatic event greatly impacted her family. Ella explains that her mother and grandmother were overwhelmed with grief and this traumatic loss compounded on top of her mother’s previous trauma.
During this time, Ella’s father was also dealing with injuries from a car accident. A year later her brother was born which was difficult. Ella realized that her parents weren’t coping well with their traumas. Due to the tumultuous circumstances during her childhood, Ella’s parents went through a messy divorce.
From a young age, Ella remembers wanting to help her parents because they seemed to be sad all the time. The events of her childhood and her parent’s difficult time coping caused Ella to grow up very quickly.
Feeling unseen and unheard and wanting attention from her parents who were both dealing with their own issues, Ella felt very angry and didn’t know how to cope. Not only did Ella have a difficult childhood but her teenage years were full of trauma and grief.
She explains that she didn’t want to be here anymore. She was having a hard time coping with all the trauma and every time she felt like she was beginning to heal and move forward, there would be a major setback. Ella explains feeling like she didn’t have any support. She got lost in drugs and alcohol and was seeking external validation anywhere she could.
Eventually, Ella was able to make the conscious decision to heal and move forward. For the first time, she opened up about what she had been through and was able to get the support she had so desperately needing. She had to learn how to let people in and how to receive support.
In this powerful conversation, Ella shares the steps she took to begin to heal and shares the foundations of healing
