147. Why Your Number One Priority Needs to Be Your Relationship with Yourself

Hello and welcome to my podcast, The Wellness Project with Des. On today’s podcast episode, I speak with Erin Gray about the relationship you have with yourself.

I’m Desiree, a Mental Health Therapist and Holistic Wellness Coach that is passionate about helping people improve their mental health and live a healthy and fulfilled life. One way I do this is by interviewing experts in the field of mental health and wellness as well as those that share their first hand accounts with their mental health journeys. In this podcast episode, we will hear from Erin about why the relationship you have with yourself is the most important one in your life and why it needs to be a priority.

Erin Gray worked as a Certified Financial Planner for her family’s business for over 10 years. Erin checked all the boxes of “success” but was still feeling empty, unfulfilled, and frustrated. She thought something was wrong with her for not feeling satisfied or content. Erin describes herself as an over-worker and overachiever. Because she felt something was missing and felt shame around her discontent, she decided to take time off from work to pursue a much needed break to focus on herself. She finally had the opportunity to play and enjoy her life on her terms. She was able to figure out how she wanted to help and show up in the world.

Erin believes that our number one priority is the relationship we have with ourselves. Learning to love ourselves unconditionally and knowing we are worthy and deserving is the most important thing we can do. Erin discusses how our health and mental health are impacted when we struggle with self-love.

When fear, doubt, anger, and self-loathing are your baseline feelings, it’s harmful to your health and well-being. Erin describes these feelings as “lower vibration emotions.”

In our conversation, Erin discusses the many possible root causes as to why you may be struggling with loving yourself. She speaks to the importance of being aware of how you speak to yourself in order to reframe the self criticism and negative self-talk.

She also shares a helpful exercise that will allow you to become more aware of your inner thoughts. Erin also shares key questions to ask yourself when exploring the relationship you have with yourself.

Because the relationship you have with yourself is the most important one in your life, you do not want to miss this conversation where you will learn how to prioritize yourself and your well-being.
