I’m Desiree, a Mental Health Therapist that is passionate about helping people improve their mental health and live a healthy and fulfilled life. One way I do this is by interviewing experts in the field of mental health and wellness as well as those that share their first hand accounts witht their mental health journeys. In this podcast episode, we will hear from Patricia about how you can build up your resiliency skills.
Patricia Morgan is a therapist, author, and professional speaker about resilience. Patricia started her career out as an early childhood educator. She and her husband decided to adopt a 6 year old little girl when her son was 3 years old. Patricia and her husband were over the moon excited about the addition to their family but the adjustment was a challenge. Their daughter’s behaviors started to erupt from her past childhood abuse and it was difficult to manage. Patricia went to therapy and learned a lot about stress, trauma, recovery, and resilence.
Patricia explains that we need to have some stress and some challenge in order to grow and to build our resilency skills. In this conversation, Patricia explains the difference between stress, trauma, and complex trauma. She discusses key indicators of living with trauma and common symptoms of emotional distress.
In this conversation, Patricia answers the age old question- are we born with resilience or can we build it up? Spoiler alert! Patricia believes that resiliency is a skill like anything else and that this skill can be learned and strengethened. She also shares just how you can improve upon these skills.
During our conversation, Patricia also gives some helpful and effective stress reduction techniques.
