Hello and welcome to my podcast, The Wellness Project with Des. On today’s podcast episode, I speak with Daphne Wells about her healing journey after miscarriages and abuse.
I’m Desiree, a Mental Health Therapist that is passionate about helping people improve their mental health and live a healthy and fulfilled life. One way I do this is by interviewing experts in the field of mental health and wellness as well as those that have struggled with their mental health but have gained control over it and now live fulfilling lives.
Daphne struggled with her mental health for many years. In this podcast episode, she shares her experience with the pain of miscarriages, being in an abusive relationship, as well as her ongoing healing journey.
After a miscarriage, Daphne became distrustful of the medical community when a doctor told her she had “post-miscarriage depression” and merely prescribed her medication. Daphne knew there needed to be more to her healing than taking medicine. Daphne kept the miscarriage a secret. She didn’t have a support system because she didn’t feel she was able to share her miscarriages with her loved ones. She felt she would be blamed or shamed.
Daphne was in an abusive relationship for 3-4 years. Her ex made her look and feel crazy and he had isolated her from friends and family. Daphne explains that she became adept at hiding her feelings due to wanting to hide her vulnerabilities from her partner because he would use them against her and would purposefully get under her skin.
Feeling sad, alone, and isolated, Daphne felt like she couldn’t share how she was feeling with anyone. She explains that she was experiencing feelings of failure and hopelessness. There were days she didn’t leave the house because she didn’t feel she could talk to anyone.
Daphne’s healing journey is ongoing but she shares what has worked for her so far and the coping skills that help her.
Through her healing journey, Daphne states that one of the most important things for her to do is to express her feelings in a positive and healthy way.
Listen to Daphne’s story to learn how she took her healing into her own hands and the ways she is still working on her healing.
