How to Start Your Day Off Right in 11 Easy Steps

Raise your hand if you often find yourself waking up on the wrong side of the bed.

Meeeeeeeeee!!!!!

Waking up in a bad mood can set your whole day up for failure. It’s so important for our whole day to start it off right. Being in a funk all day, everyday from the moment you wake up can negatively effect your productivity, relationships, mood and overall well being.

If you fall into this category don’t fret. There’s hope! A small change can make a huge impact. Try any or all of these 10 Ways to Start Your Day Off Right and get ready to witness a happier, healthier you!

  1. Wake Up to Music

Do you wake up to a blaring alarm like I do? I don’t know about you but for me, the blaring alarm starts off my day all wrong from the very moment I open my eyes. I wake up agitated, stressed, and panicked.

A calmer, more peaceful way to start off your day would be to wake up to relaxing, serene music, church bells or beautiful chimes.

2. Water

Did you know that we actually become dehydrated when we sleep? Help your body get a boost of fluids by drinking a large glass of water when you wake up.

3. Gratitude

Starting out your day by reflecting on what you are thankful for can help to put your mind in a positive space. Try keeping a gratitude journal on your nightstand that you can reach for each morning.

4. Food

They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and whoever “they” are got it completely right! Going to work or school or anywhere for that matter on an empty stomach is not only going to keep your mind preoccupied on the next time you are going to eat, but you will also have lower energy and a lower attention span to focus on the task at hand. If you can’t focus then you can’t be productive or give whatever project it is your best ideas.

Try your best to have a nice, healthy breakfast with coffee or tea. If you don’t have time to sit down to eat breakfast then at least have some fruit.

I am not a morning person whatsoever. I never sit down to eat breakfast at home but I do eat breakfast every morning. Every morning I would pack a yogurt parfait to bring to work. Now that I am cutting dairy out of my diet, I pack oatmeal with me every morning and eat it at work.

*Pro tip- set your coffee maker to your alarm. Fewer things are more wonderful than waking up to the smell of your fresh coffee waiting for you.

5. Listen to Music

Listening to music while you get ready can get you pumped for the day. Music can influence our whole mood and frame of mind so why not listen to music that makes you feel happy, excited, and motivated?

6. Exercise or Stretch

Exercising or doing light stretching for even 5 minutes will help to wake you up, energized, and pumped for the day.

7. Shower

Some people shower at night to save time in the morning but for me personally, nothing wakes me up and refreshes me more than a nice, hot shower. I only take a 10 minute shower in the morning but it’s enough to wake me up and get me ready for the day.

8. Meditate

Meditation or even taking 5 minutes of peace and quiet for yourself can make a world of a difference in your day. Take some time to breathe and push all of those hectic thoughts and to-do lists out of your mind. Take a minute to just be.

9. Clean

I become very stressed when I get home from work and walk into a messy home. I like to wake up 10 mins early each morning to clean or organize a little bit. I put my clothes away, I straighten up the living room, and I load the dishwasher.  These 10 or 15 mins help me stay stress-free for the rest of the day at least in regards to my home. I’m not at work thinking about all the cleaning I have to do when I get home. And when I get home from a long day of work, I am able to relax for a bit.

10. Stress Relief

I love using stress relief lotion first thing when I get to work. It relaxes me right away. A few breaths into my hands and I am good to go!

11. Positive Affirmations

Be your biggest fan! Don’t leave the house without cheering yourself on first. Compliment yourself or say something positive. Getting in the right head space before the day is important.
