Mark and I love to hike in the Adirondacks. It’s his goal to hike all 46 high peak mountains. That is not my goal. I like hiking them but here and there.
Last Fall we hiked Phelps and Tabletop mountains. We are slow hikers so it always takes us 10 hours or more round trip. I can’t remember off the top of my head how long these two took us but I assume around 12-14 hours.
As we approached the mountain I had seen something that I had never seen before. We saw construction crews working on a bridge. It was really cool to see.
The beginning of the hike had really pretty wooden bridges and creeks.
I always get excited when seeing these signs! On our way!

We passed a field where a bunch of people were playing Frisbee. It was beautiful and fun to watch them. We stayed a while watching the game, probably longer than we should have.

I was hoping that since we were hiking in the fall we would see some more fall foliage but we had no such luck. The fall foliage is so difficult to time in the Adirondacks. It’s like an avocado. It’s ripe for one day and rotten the next. I’ve never been able to time it quite right but even though it wasn’t peak fall foliage we did see some beautiful, vibrant colors.
The hike started out pretty foggy. The sky looked gloomy but it got more beautiful and sunny as the day passed. We lucked out. I was nervous it was going to be a rainy day.
Getting there! 2 more miles to Phelps!
I am not a picky eater but my number one most hated food on this planet is mushrooms. I gag if I even smell them cooking. Though their taste disgusts me, I love taking pictures of them. Mushrooms look so majestic growing in the wild, don’t they?
Pictures just never do justice for the trail or elevation.

Something I liked about this hike were a few little friends we saw.
1 mile to Phelps!

Walking to the peak.
We made it! And it was a beautiful view! One peak down, one more to go!
Hiking on some rocks.
Indian Falls is a must! It was so beautiful! We stayed here for a very long time taking in the beautiful views as well as relaxing.
I was pooped!

I enjoyed watching this cute doggy have fun with her stick.
After a nice, long, and relaxing break we made our way onward to Tabletop!

Finally made it!
Very pretty views. Now it was time to make our way down as quickly as we could before sundown.
Made it! I took a picture of this bridge because I crossed it so many times for different hikes. This was the last time I would be crossing it as there are no more mountains for me to hike this way.

We didn’t make it down to the car before sundown but I got some amazing pictures of the moon.
Though it was a difficult hike, it was beautiful and an adventure for sure. Have you hiked in the Adirondacks before? How many have you done? Which have been your favorites or the most memorable?
