Ep 45. Speaking with a Chiropractor about Whole Wellness

Welcome to my podcast, The Wellness Project with Des. On today’s episode, we talk with the rehab-based chiropractor, Melissa MacDonald aka Dr. Mac. In this episode, she busts some health myths, as well as gives us many tips on how to prevent pain, whether you lead a highly active or mostly sedentary lifestyle.

Ever wonder if you should go to a physical therapist versus a chiropractor? What is the difference between the two anyway? Dr. Mac explains this in-depth!

“A lot of times when we’re starting to experience pain, it’s because we’ve stopped moving.”

Dr. MacDonald

Dr. Mac explains the importance of movement and regular exercise. She explains that we need to find a movement that we love. It can be yoga, dance, running, tai chi…anything that gets us moving. She goes on to explain that our bodies have not evolved as quickly to keep up with the technological world we currently live in. She states that went from 20% of the workforce to being white-collar to close to 80%! Getting movement in throughout our day can be as simple as getting up and going for walks throughout the day.

Dr. Mac passionately teaches people about lifestyle changes that are sustainable and obtainable! She teaches small, micro-changes that people can make over time in combination with movement and exercise.

She stresses the importance of eating whole foods, drinking lots of water, and getting good quality sleep.  Dr. Mac explains that she is just one piece of the whole wellness puzzle.

“Start  small, start slow, and slowly build up ’cause when you burn yourself out, when you break yourself down, it discourages you and you give up.”
