It seems the world is still going a little crazy. Every day there is a new disaster on the news, work is stressful, endless bills are causing anxiety, politics are out of control. There seems to be no escape from everyday stressors.
You may have heard me say this on my social media channels, but in times like these, it’s important to keep in mind what we can control and what we cannot control.
A lot of our stress and anxiety can come from our need or desire to control the world around us. Unfortunately, that is not possible the majority of the time. Trying to control the world and those around us will only leave us feeling stressed, anxious, and helpless.
This is a helpful image to illustrate what is in our control and what is outside of our control.

Reflection Questions:
Get out a notebook and take a moment to reflect on your need for controlling the world around you.
- What have you been trying to control that you ultimately have no control over?
- Does attempting to control the world or people around you cause you stress or anxiety?
- What is in your control?
- What can you let go of trying to control?
- Is it difficult for you to let go of controlling others, the world, or situations?
Letting go of control is not easy whatsoever, but with practice each day, it will get easier and easier as well as bring you more peace.
