Hello and welcome to my podcast, The Wellness Project with Des. On today’s podcast episode, I speak with Karen DeLoach about the healing power of creativity.
I’m Desiree, a Mental Health Therapist and Holistic Wellness Coach, passionate about helping you to improve your mental health and live a healthy and fulfilled life. One way I do this is by interviewing experts in the field of mental health and wellness as well as those that share their first-hand accounts with their mental health journeys. In this episode, we will hear from Karen about the wellness benefits of engaging in creativity.
Karen DeLoach is an artist, teacher, art mentor, and creativity specialist. Working with many people from all walks of life, in many different creative capacities, Karen saw firsthand the healing power of creativity. Because of how healing creativity can be, she is passionate about getting individuals back in touch with their creative parts.
There are countless benefits to engaging in creativity. Not only is it relaxing, meditative, joyful, and stress relieving, but being creative is also mentally, emotionally, and physically healing. After becoming a teacher, Karen noticed something healing happening when her students connected with their creative sides. In her years of working with individuals in the creative space, Karen has seen the immense, positive impact that engaging in creativity has on people. During our conversation, Karen shares stories that are nothing short of miraculous.
Between capitalistic pressures to monitize our talents or hobbies, not having the time or energy, self-criticism, self-judgement, and perfectionism, many of us lose our creative spark as the years pass. Karen is passionate about helping people to find joy in the creativity process, even if they feel they aren’t “good” at it. You don’t have to be good at something, talented, or monetize it for it to be worthy or your time and energy.
In our conversation, Karen gives many tips and words of wisdom on how you can get back in touch with your creativity. Listen to this conversation and reap the wellness benefits of engaging in your creative side.
