Hello and welcome to my podcast, The Wellness Project with Des. On today’s podcast episode, I speak with Miriam Rachel about overcoming people-pleasing.
I’m Desiree, a Mental Health Therapist and Holistic Wellness Coach, passionate about helping people improve their mental health and live a healthy and fulfilled life. One way I do this is by interviewing experts in the field of mental health and wellness as well as those that share their first-hand accounts with their mental health journeys. In this episode, we will hear from Miriam about people-pleasing- what it is, where it stems from, and how she was able to overcome it.
Miriam Rachel is a Mental Health Advocate and recovered people-pleaser. Growing up, Miriam says that she was bullied due to being socially awkward, having acne, and being overweight from undiagnosed PCOS. She also struggled with undiagnosed ADHD. Miriam grew up feeling she was not good enough and that her needs did not matter. She went out of her way to sacrifice herself to gain other’s affection, approval, and acceptance. Miriam’s people-pleasing and self-sacrificing tendencies were exasperated when she had a child with complex special needs.
Listen to this conversation to learn how Miriam was finally able to overcome her people-pleasing by implementing healthy boundaries.
