Hello and welcome to my podcast, The Wellness Project with Des. On today’s episode, I speak with Shelly Jefferis about the impact clean living has on our mental health and well-being.
I’m Desiree, a Mental Health Therapist and Holistic Wellness Coach that is passionate about helping people improve their mental health and live a healthy and fulfilled life. One way I do this is by interviewing experts in the field of mental health and wellness as well as those that share their first hand accounts with their mental health journeys. In this episode, we will hear from Shelly about clean living.
Shelly Jefferis has been in the health and wellness profession for over 35 years. She is an educator, speaker and mentor. She is a podcast host of “Words of Wellness” (episode I guested on is linked), and is a retired kinesiology college professor.
As a teen, Shelly started working at a local gym. She had a strong interest and passion in physical fitness and health at a very young age.
As Shelly progressed in her career, she became passionate about healthy, clean living by reducing toxic exposure. Her philosophy is that, we don’t have to deprive ourselves or torture ourselves at the gym to live clean, healthy lives.
In our conversation, she discusses the connection between nutrition, exercise, and our mental health and also discusses the impact toxin exposure has on our mental health. Shelly breaks down this big, overwhelming topic into small, actionable steps you can take to improve your wellness. She discusses the importance of reading food labels and gives tips on how to know what to look for.
When thinking about clean living, we often think about what we consume, but Shelly talks about the other things we should also be mindful of such as feminine products, shampoos and conditioners, laundry detergent, deodorant, body wash, makeup, cleaning supplies and more.
She speaks to the importance of taking precautions and preventative measures now so we can be healthy and live a life of quality and longevity for years to come.
In her interview, Shelly shares ways you can easily replace or substitute healthier items for what you already have in your pantry and fridge.
This is a conversation packed full of practical steps you can take to live more of a clean lifestyle. Listen to this conversation if you would like to learn how you can improve your mental health by making healthier choices in your daily life.
