Hello and welcome to my podcast, The Wellness Project with Des. On today’s podcast, I speak with Ian Westmoreland about volunteering and the incredible impact it’s made on his life.
I’m Desiree, a Mental Health Therapist that is passionate about helping people improve their mental health and live a healthy and fulfilled life. One way I do this is by interviewing experts in the field of mental health and wellness as well as those that share their first hand accounts with their mental health journeys. In this podcast episode, we will hear from Ian about how volunteering completely shifted his mindset, perspective, and gave his life meaning and purpose.
Ian Westmoreland spent 42 years working in the Australian and New Zealand telecommunications and energy industries as an IT project manager. But that all changed on September 10th, 2013 when he experienced a life changing moment that led to his decision to retire from paid work and begin his new life as a volunteer.
Ian spent his time mentoring primary and high school students. After he was unable to find support for a young man in need, Ian had a strong desire to fill the gap. He founded two non-profit organizations.
During our conversation, Ian discusses the impacts volunteering has had on his life and how it helped to shift his attitude, perspective, and awareness. He also talks about how much he learned from his experiences and how these experiences helped him to grow into a better person.
Volunteering is something I am very passionate about. I have been volunteering since I was a teenager and have seen first hand the impact it’s made on my life.
