Welcome to my podcast, The Wellness Project with Des. On today’s episode, I speak with Daniela Wolfe. After a divorce, Daniela found herself an overwhelmed and burned-out, single mom of two small children.
Though Daniela had been a social worker for 26 years and trained in mindfulness, self-care, stress management, and coping skills, she was not managing her overwhelm or stress well. She was drinking more, she was irritable, she was snapping at those around her, she wasn’t sleeping well, and she was eating unhealthily.
Daniela explains that she like many moms do, had a mindset that she needed to do it all. She needed to prove that she was independent, strong, capable, and able to handle it all. She was hiding her burnout and struggles all the while, she was receiving praise for being able to handle it all. She was afraid of how it would appear if she asked for or accepted help. But there was a distinct moment when Daniela realized she couldn’t keep going on this way. That she needed to ask for help, that she needed to take care of herself, she needed to put herself first, and prioritize self-care.
Daniela discusses where she believes this pressure on moms comes from and how she believes that sharing our stories, being more open, honest, and vulnerable is helping to shift this mindset. She shares the steps she took to make positive changes in her life and how you can take steps to prioritize self-care.

This episode will benefit you even if you’re not a mom! Because we can all relate to being stressed out, overwhelmed, burned out, and just plain exhausted.
