Hello and welcome to my podcast, The Wellness Project with Des. On today’s podcast episode, I speak with Kimberly Lorah about life after divorce.
I’m Desiree, a Mental Health Therapist and Holistic Wellness Coach, passionate about helping you to improve your mental health and live a healthy and fulfilled life. One way I do this is by interviewing experts in the field of mental health and wellness as well as those that share their first-hand accounts with their mental health journeys. In this episode, we will hear from Kimberly about blossoming after the “temporary insanity” of divorce.
Kimberly Lorah is a therapist, and after going through a divorce from her partner of 23 years, she shifted her entire practice to working exclusively with individuals going through the divorce process. Kimberly now works with people in all stages and phases of divorce. Kimberly says that getting divorced was one of the most disorienting and emotionally painful experiences of her life, which ultimately inspired her to dedicating her career to supporting others going through the same challenges she faced.
After having children with her ex, Kimberly became a stay at home mom, putting her practice on hold. She dedicated all of her time, energy, and love to caring for her children and her partner. After the divorce, Kimberly experienced a loss of identity. It wasn’t just the loss of the relationship that was so difficult, but also the unraveling of who she thought she was. The roles she so strongly identified with were gone. Kimberly describes this feeling as a, “temporary insanity” and like the ground was ripped from beneath her.
In our conversation, Kimberly explains the most common factors that lead to divorce and how someone going through a divorce can cope. She also shares how friends and family can support their loved one going through a divorce.
As devastating as her experience was, her divorce led Kimberly to a profound transformation in her life. She is an adament beliver that endings and transitions are new beginnings. Listen to this conversation to learn how you can navigate the emotional rollercoaster of divorce and find your happily ever after post-divorce.
