Sometimes it’s hard to know what to do when we feel anxious, stressed, or overwhelmed. We can become consumed by negative emotions and not know how to express these emotions. Meditation and grounding exercises are a great way to come back to the present. These techniques are effective in decreasing anxiety symptoms and helping you feel calm.
This is a quick and easy grounding exercise you can do when you are stressed, anxious, or overwhelmed.
Grounding Exercise:
Take a few moments to take a break and walk around your space.
If you can, take off your socks and shoes. Feel the carpet or hard floor beneath your feet.
With each step, inhale and then exhale with the next step.
Become aware of your breath syncing in line with your feet when they touch the floor.
Take this moment to be present.
Focus on the feel of the floor beneath your feet.
You can put your hand to your chest and feel the beat of your heart.
Set a timer on your phone and do this for at least 5 minutes. After a few minutes, you will feel those negative emotions dissipate as well as the physical symptoms.
This is a quick and easy meditation that you can do anywhere, anytime you are feeling anxious.
