Hello and welcome to my podcast, The Wellness Project with Des. On today’s podcast episode, I speak with Benoit Kim about living intentionally.
I’m Desiree, a Mental Health Therapist that is passionate about helping people improve their mental health and live a healthy and fulfilled life. One way I do this is by interviewing experts in the field of mental health and wellness as well as those that have struggled with their mental health but have gained control over it and now live fulfilling lives. In this episode, we will hear from Benoit Kim about how his near death experiences changed the way he lives his life.
Benoit Kim is a veteran, and a former policymaker turned therapist. His journey with his mental health made him realize that he wanted to make changes on the micro level.
In 2017, Benoit experienced deployment that forced him to take leave from his graduate studies. This near-deployment was canceled 1 day before his mobilization. The stress and life changes due to this near deployment catalyzed Benoit’s first major depressive episode. Following this event, he had two near-death experiences.
These 3 experiences forced Benoit to contemplate his own mortality. They left him being very intentional about who he spends his time and energy on, how he navigates his life, and how he chooses to spend his time. He had the realization that we all have a finite amount of time and energy at our disposal and that time is our most valuable resource.
Benoit learned what to put his time and energy by using “The Full Body Yes” which means his brain, his heart, and his gut all say, “Yes!”
Benoit explains that a lot of us live in reactive, passive, unintentional, and unmindful states of being but he explains that we can live more intentionally, mindfully, and within our values.
Listen to Benoit’s story to learn how you can also live life more intentionally, fully, and with meaning.
