A Case of You

Plot Outline: A guy falls in love with the barista at a coffee shop. He finds her FaceBook profile and studies it to become a man she can fall in love with.

Rating: 1/5

I thought I was sitting down to watch an adorable romantic comedy but I was wrong. I was sitting down to watch another “stalk her until she loves you” flick.

Sam (Justin Long) decides he is in love with the barista at a coffee shop he goes to so he finds her on FaceBook and studies her page. He has spoken to her once for about five minutes and is convinced she is perfect for him.

Sam learns Judo, learns how to cook French cuisine, learns how to play guitar, and reads all of Birdie’s (Rachel Evan Wood) favorite books and listens to her favorite music. He even learns one of her favorite songs on guitar. All to impress her. These are all things that she loves, which he has gathered from her FaceBook page.

Sam’s roommate thinks things are going well because Sam is so happy and energized. He questions Sam about their conversations/dates. When Sam admits they have not spoken and he has only been checking her FaceBook page, his roommate tells him he is creepy. YES this is very creepy! Sam is a stalker. Even though his roommate does the right thing and tells Sam this is creepy behavior, he then reinforces Sam’s stalker status by recommending that Sam go to a show Birdie is going to in order to “accidentally” bump into her.

You can refer to my previous review of The Right Kind of Wrong to see just how sick and tired I am of this stalker cliche’. I will say it again, stalking is not romantic! It is a crime!

The Right Kind of Wrong

right-kind-of-wrong-dvd-cover-13Release Date: February 6th, 2014

Plot Outline: A man falls in love with a bride on her wedding day and he will stop at nothing until he makes her fall in love with him.

Rating: 1/5

Words cannot express how much I hated this movie but I will try. The Right Kind of Wrong was everything that is wrong with the movie industry. The acting was bad, the plot was cliche’ and sexist to boot!

This movie was extremely sexist right off the bat, which itself points out numerous times. The main character, Leo (Ryan Kwanten) falls in love with a bride because she kicked a football over his house. He then crashes her wedding and hits on her. He becomes even more convinced they are soul mates when she punches him in the face. The main character is now a creepy psychopath at about 15 minutes into the movie but he only becomes creepier.

Leo proceeds to stalk Colette (Sara Canning) by showing up at her work place, house, and a coffee shop she frequents. When watching this film I couldn’t help but become angry that this serious issue of stalking that women do face was being used as a romantic plot. Stalking and pursuing a woman relentlessly until she gives in is not romantic. Leo deserves to be in prison, not with Colette.

I really wish that this harmful cliche’ would stop being used over and over again. It sends the wrong message to men and women! Stalking is not romantic, it is a crime.

The Dirties

MV5BMjk5OTcyNDQ3M15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwMTk3NDgyMDE@._V1_SX214_AL_Release Date: January, 2013

Plot Outline: Two friends that endure daily bullying jokingly talk about killing their classmates…but one is not joking.

Rating: 4/5

Wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!! The Dirties…For such a long time I was completely speechless. This film is incredibly powerful and intense. I thought about this film for weeks after watching it. What a masterpiece this was. It was incredibly well made. It was emotional, frustrating, and angering. I laughed, I cried, I stayed up at night thinking about it.

This is a film that takes the typical villain and makes him a victim from our perspective. We see things from the perspective of a killer. Only he isn’t quite so cold blooded. The Dirties tells the often ignored story of two teens that are bullied so badly in school everyday that they fantasize about killing their bullies. Bullying is a serious issue that is allowed to go on in the American school system. Sometimes the effects of bullying leave someone dead, whether by suicide or murder. Though this is fictional, this film gives us a good look at bullying that occurs in schools every single day.

Not only was this story line fantastic, the acting was phenomenal, and the editing was great.

The Dirties is definitely a must see!

Goodbye World

MV5BMjE2MTQ4NDUzNF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwNTQ1NDQxMTE@._V1_SX640_SY720_Release Date: April 4th, 2014

Plot Outline: A group of friends hide out together in a countryside cabin during a terrorist attack that is affecting the world.

Rating: 3/5

I will admit that originally I did not want to watch this film because I thought the name of the title was dramatic, that was until I learned it is the name of a virus that caused global chaos. I decided to see this film when I discovered Ben McKenzie, man of my dreams is in it. Literally, he has been my boyfriend in my dreams.

Once I started watching Goodbye World, I was hooked. This film is so tense. I was on the edge of my seat for most of the movie. There is so much tension built up between the characters and past secrets coming out of hiding that it is full of relationship drama and conflict with ya know, the end of the world and all.

What I like most about this film is that it doesn’t focus on the end of the world tragedy or the violence associated with it. Goodbye World focuses on a set of characters and how they react to the stresses of a tense and potentially dangerous situation. This is definitely one of those ‘humane nature’ type films. It was highly entertaining.

The acting in the film was fantastic, very realistic and genuine characters. I also loved the sound track! The song “Same Mistakes” by The Echo-Friendly has been stuck in my head since I watched this days ago. Check out the sound track!

Definitely recommend Goodbye World!

Walk of Shame

imagesRelease Date: May 2nd, 2014

Plot Outline: A reporter’s dream of becoming a news anchor is compromised after a one-night stand leaves her stranded in downtown L.A. without a phone, car, ID or money – and only 8 hours to make it to the most important job interview of her life. (IMDB.com)

Rating: 2.5/5

While Walk of Shame was not the best movie I have seen lately, it was largely entertaining. With its over the top and exaggerated conflicts, I was laughing and giggling with without shame! I know this movie is dumb but Walk of Shame knows it’s dumb and a guilty watch though, that’s why it is ridiculous without apology. Walk of Shame knows what it is and it is not ashamed. It is ridiculous!

Elizabeth Banks is adorable and funny. She is mistaken for a prostitute throughout the film because she is wearing a little yellow dress from clubbing the night before. She finds herself in the ghetto, a crack house, and trying to steal her car from an impound lot.

This movie is by no means deep or emotional or winning any awards any time soon but I recommend it if you are in the mood for a dumb, mindless comedy. I laughed and you might too.

Girl Most Likely

Release Date: July 19th, 2013

Plot Outline: A woman’s life turns upside down. She has no choice but to move back in with her mother, brother, and her mother’s boyfriend

Rating: 4/5

Let me start off this review by saying that I loved Girl Most Likely! It was everything I thought it would be and more. It was funny, very quirky, the acting was great, and it was full of lovable characters. What I liked most about it was that it really focused on Imogene’s character (Played by Kristen Wiig) development and life issues instead of becoming an unnecessary love story like every other movie. I think Imogene’s character is easy to relate to. She is a young woman that is struggling to obtain her life dream. When life deals her some bad cards she is forced to move back in with her mother while trying to get her life back together.

When a man is introduced as a love interest I rolled my eyes and expected him to bring her life back together and for her to realize all she needs is love. Blah and vomit. That was not the case at all and I was so relieved. The lack of a love story made this film even more enjoyable because it didn’t follow the typical generic story line.

Girl Most Likely was a light-hearted comedy but it had substance and the characters had depth. I liked this movie a lot!

Short Term 12

download (1)Release Date: August 23rd, 2013

Plot Outline: A woman in charge of a group home has to deal with her past demons while trying to help the teenagers in the group home battle theirs as well.

Rating: 4.5/5

Wow! What an emotional roller-coaster of a drama! I was so involved with this film that nothing else in the world existed. Everything about this film was phenomenal! The acting, the story line, the dialogue, the characters, the relationships, the music…everything was great.

Everyone I know that has seen this film absolutely loved it. I highly recommend this to everyone. It was unique and heart felt and genuine. Each character had their own set of issues that they were trying to survive through and I couldn’t help but root for every single one of them. It was very emotional and beautiful to watch. You will laugh, you will cry, you will smile, you will think about Short Term 12 for a long time after seeing it.

Odd Thomas

Release Date: February 28th, 2014

Plot Outline: A guy that can see dead people is faced with a dangerous mystery he only has one day to solve.

Rating: 3/5

Odd Thomas was an interesting movie. It was quirky and fun to watch and all the while kept me on the edge of my seat. What I liked most about this film was that it was completely unpredictable. Many films follow the same script over and over again and become completely predictable and boring to watch. Not Odd Thomas! Though there are many movies that involve an odd boy being able to see dead people, this was a twist on an old tale.

I did really like Odd Thomas and recommend it but there were a few downsides to the flick. The acting throughout the movie was pretty awful. It felt like the actors were forcing the words to come out of their mouths. The dialogues throughout the movie were awkward and forced, especially between the main couple of the film. While their relationship was cute, their over the top love for one another was nothing short of vomit worthy. Another downfall of the film was that there were minor plot holes. The plot holes weren’t huge or anything that will keep you up at night but I did notice a few.

My one major complaint about Odd Thomas was that instead of certain actions being taken to portray a point, the point was stated over and over and over again.

Two examples of this. 1: The two main characters, Odd and Stormy are in love. They constantly tell each other how in love with each other they are or that they are each other’s soul mates instead of just acting like they are in love. 2: Odd Thomas is supposedly a “weird” person. I would never once have thought he was strange or different if every 5 minutes someone didn’t state that he is odd or weird or different. His character seemed to be to be an average guy but the movie tries to drill in your head that he is strange by repeating it constantly.

Though the acting was bad, the characters were lovable. The film kept me on the edge of my seat and anxious throughout!

Overall I really liked Odd Thomas. I thought it was cute and fun to watch and it definitely kept my attention. It left me wanting more!

Plot Outline: A group of people are struggling with sex addiction and relationships in their lives.

Rating: 4/5

What a truly phenomenal film! I had no idea that it was produced by Edward Norton. Now that I know, it all makes perfect sense.

I honestly do not know much about sex addiction or the everyday struggles that come along with it so I do not know if this film gives an accurate representation of those struggles. However, it did seem to do a good job sharing the experiences and struggles of people dealing with any sort of addiction.

First of all, each and every character was fantastic. The characters were all so real, and complex, and genuine. They felt like real people with real feelings and real struggles. They weren’t so black and white. Each character, especially Adam (Mark Ruffalo) and Phoebe (Gwyneth Paltrow) struggled with conflicting feelings.

The film brought each of the characters to vulnerable, uncomfortable emotional places you don’t see very often in films. The raw emotions felt so real and the characters bring the audience there with them. There were times I felt sad, hurt, and uncomfortable throughout the film, which I absolutely loved. I felt invested in the characters and their relationships.

The music in this film was perfectly selected. It always did a great job of heightening the emotions in each scene.

Overall, Thanks For Sharing was fantastic and I highly recommend it!

About Time

about time

Release Date: November 1st, 2013

Plot Outline: A guy learns he can travel back in time.

Rating: 3/5

I hated About Time for approximately the first 30 minutes. I couldn’t stand the main character, Tim and his whining. Wah, wah, wah, I want a girlfriend, wah wah I want to be in love.  So obnoxious. Learn how to live your life and be independent, Tim!

I think I would have been less annoyed had Tim liked a particular girl but no, he just wanted a girlfriend, any girl would do. Doesn’t matter her personality or anything, any girl would do to fill his empty life with some meaning, cause ya know, what else are girlfriends for?

So, after Tim gets a girlfriend the movie got better because he whined less. About Time was marketed as a love story, about a whiny pathetic guy obsessed with finding love. That is what the movie was about for the first half hour but after that it became more charming. About Time was filled with life lessons and Tim learning to appreciate what he has. Granted, Tim’s life was pretty damn perfect. I did appreciate the moral of the story and the acting was great and the story line was sweet and each relationship and character in the movie was absolutely lovable but Tim’s life was maybe a tad less than perfect. Tim found the love of his life and they had absolutely no issues in their relationship, Tim had an amazing relationship with his parents, he found a great job, and he has adorable children. One of his issues was picking a best man because he has so many people in his life he loves so much. Poor you Tim, poor you.

Tim learns through his travels that he needs to appreciate each and every moment. Well that is easy to do when your life is so easy and perfect. Don’t get me wrong, I did enjoy About Time. It was sweet and charming but it would have been nice to see the main character go through some character development and overcome challenges. The movie attempted to add more depth when his adorable, lovable sister has a life issues…for about two minutes.

I really loved the relationship with Tim and his father. In my opinion, it was the sweetest relationship in the film.

About Time is worth a watch if you are in the mood for a lighthearted, sweet, charming film. Aren’t we all once in a while?
